About A. Vogel Non-Fiction Author

I am not quite ready to launch my non-fiction author career, but I do have quite a few books in the works. I grew up in South Africa and had the good fortune to travel quite widely with my family. Later, my husband has afforded me the opportunity to live in many places with different cultures that have helped to shape me, and we have been settled in Sweden for more than a decade.

My parents are both veterinarians and I grew up surrounded by animals. In high school I rebelled (of course) and deliberately dropped biology from my subject list so that I could never be expected to follow in my parents' footsteps. While I love animals and have had many pets over the years, my passion has always been people and stories, a combination of which made social anthropology the perfect choice for university. I actually stumbled upon the subject quite by accident during my orientation week at the University of Pretoria, South Africa because I chose to pursue a course allowing me to take two majors: English Literature and Psychology. While I believed at 19 that I wanted to become a psychologist, I couldn't let the stories go and didn't want to close the door on my dream to become a fiction writer "one day". As it turned out, psychology wasn't quite right for me, but I found my home away from home in the anthropology department and continued to specialise in identity and how the individual and collective combine, and are reinterpreted, within our identities.

Later, after my daughter was born, I discovered what it was about psychology I'd ultimately disliked, and I found my vocation as a transformational life coach: assisting others to find their passion and engage the most critical steps to make their dreams reality. All of these aspects of myself have found their outlet in the non-fiction books I'm currently working on.
